Okay... I did the mage tank and it is no big deal. Spell hit is something that could be considered important. Spellsteal resist would be very bad. My buffed health was around 11.5K
I scorched the entire fight except for the Pyroblast opening. I did not get cute with the spellsteal... when I saw the shield I hit Spellsteal.
I continued scorching until the spell steal timer was around 2 seconds. At that time I hit the following macro:
/tell Meluda SHIELD ALMOST GONE /cast Fire Ward(Rank 6)
I am no macro expert but I think that is it. Since meluda was healing me she got a whisper letting her prepare for big heals after the shield timed out.
Rinse and repeat.

forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=82080843&sid=1Best comments from this thread: FR does nothing as the Greater Fireball is completely unresistable. Imbued netherweave pieces are handy for this (robe not tunic obviously), take off your spellfire/strike. Normal gear plus a couple key high level "of stamina" greens. I use maybe 10 green items "of stamina" or "of the eagle", along with the Continuum Blade (Revered KoT), the Exalted KoT threat reduction trinket (Timelapse Shard +25 STA) and the Karazhan Arcane Resist quest reward trinket (also quite a lot of +STA). I easily have 13K+ raid buffed HP without a flask. Your spell damage and mana are basically irrelevant - I get away with casting a few frostbolts early on and then casting maybe 1 every 5 seconds for the rest of the fight. By the time the rest of the raid gets to Krosh you'll have more than enough aggro.
The key to the spell stealing is...wait until about 3 seconds into the Fireball cast to steal the shield when Krosh has it up. This almost always (> 90%) allows you to take low damage from a fireball in the last second or 2 of the shield and allows Krosh to recast it before he starts his next fireball, which means you can spell steal it 3 seconds in again and never eat a full strength fireball. I ate my share of full strength fireballs while learning the fight, but only had to live through 2 full strength fireballs on our fire kill and zero on our second.
Sure...you could steal the shield immediately and eat a 8800 hit every 30 seconds or so, but if you work at it and time it right, you'll easily be able to be healed by one healer, and that really helps on this fight.
Finally...as others have stated FR gear and resistances have absolutely no impact on the damage you take. Clearly Blizzard intended that the ONLY way to tank this mob was to have a Mage spell steal the shield.
